Pickup orders
Orders must be placed and paid before your selected pickup window. Cancellations requested more than 24 hours before your pickup time are eligible for a refund minus a 5% cancellation fee. Cancellations within 24 hours of pickup are non-refundable. If you miss your pickup window, the order is forfeited.
Catering & private events — deposits
A 20% deposit is required to hold your event date. Cancellations made more than 14 days before the event may receive a full deposit refund at Chef's discretion. Cancellations within 14 days are non-refundable — by that point, Chef has already sourced and begun aging the fish for your event.
Catering & private events — balance
The remaining 80% balance is due on the day of the event before service begins. Failure to pay the balance may result in cancellation of the event without refund of the deposit.
Headcount & menu changes
Catering and private events accommodate a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 14 guests. Final headcount and any menu adjustments must be confirmed at least 5 days before the event. Changes requested after that point may not be accommodated and the quoted price remains in effect.
Chef-initiated cancellation
In the rare event that Chef must cancel (illness, emergency, or other circumstances beyond her control), you will receive a full refund of all amounts paid, including the deposit. Chef will notify you as soon as possible.
Allergies & dietary restrictions
You are responsible for disclosing all known allergies and dietary restrictions at the time of ordering or inquiry. While Chef takes every precaution, The Backhouse SM operates in a kitchen that handles shellfish, fish, soy, sesame, and other common allergens. We cannot guarantee a fully allergen-free environment.
Service area
Catering and private events are available within 35 miles of San Mateo, CA. Events outside this radius may be considered on a case-by-case basis — please reach out to discuss.
